Assignment #8 DUE July 27th!

Greetings from San Francisco! (finally!)

Now that we know that most of our 84 blogs are truly solid, visually and conceptually interesting, we can leave them to their own devises for the rest of this course. I will continue to grade them each week for new posts, but we will no longer visit them for critique.  I am truly ecstatic about the growth that we have seen there.

So now let us make these books beautiful, smart, inventive and well designed.

Those of you making your books with BLURB you are to follow these instructions for next week: Download the template from BLURB and begin your layout (include front and back cover). It is MANDATORY that you take it to IAN (he is waiting for you) in the lab for help with layout and direction before you put the spreads up for critique. NOTE that I have extended our due date to accommodate this. (I will still check both blogs for your weekly set, next Tuesday.)

Those of you that are not making books with BLURB, you are to follow these instructions for next week:
Begin physical construction/printing of your books. If you are printing images please do so at school, as your fees have paid for you to use the lab. Some of you might find it conceptually sound to make prints at Wallgreens and that is fine if you are looking for that effect. But anything experimental should be done at school with Ian's support.

Document via photos the "objects/works in progress" and post these documents on your book blog. Make SURE that they are clear and that there is a WRITTEN description of what you hope to achieve posted with them.

We will ALL critique each others efforts for this draft. The final draft will be due the following week so PLEASE be aware of this calendar!

Call with any questions or concerns as it is the BEST way to get me right now. Leave a message if I do not pick up and I will get right back to you!

  1. my ceramic chair broke on Saturday and I tried to glue it back together with some E6000 but the pieces are too small. I wasn't being careful with it while I was driving apparently so I was curious as to what approach I should take for the next week. I dont have any images for it this week but I am sort of wondering if the whole thing would just fall apart if I was to photograph it broken into pieces :( so I am hesitant to post anymore images of it.

I love the idea and I totally get the connection between the butcher paper and the pictures of these beefed up guys. I also like the book being big and heavy like a weight.

I like the idea of having a more of a tactile experience with this project. Have you considered making a CD?

I like the second cover the best. The back captures the subject (the naked people) and the front shows the public place. Please try and see how you like the second part of the title being smaller. NAKED PEOPLE: in public places (second part is read almost like a whisper.

I like the way you worked several images into your cover but you were still able to keep them from distracting from each other by putting in the black squares. Good job. Try making them bigger.

Yay! You went with this style. The first cover is best in my opinion. The sky looks bigger because the letters are so tall and you left the plane the same size. I think it is a very strong cover.

I agree, your project needs a scrapbook. I think you should include construction paper and tickets and whatever else people put into scrap books. Nice idea.

I think this project could look really fantastic in a nice leather bound book of some kind. This folder does not say religion to me.
